Greetings board. This is my first post.

I'm quite intrigued by this build but I think I'm going to have to have all the mods.

From what i've gathered, the Phaseur Moire is the Fleur plus Aux A and B mods and the waveshaper, right? I ask simply because the demo video has got me juiced!

Next, if I purchase the PCB only I can still apply the Aux A and B mods, right? Or do I have to make a DIY board? I'm thinking I'll do the Aux LFOs on pad-per-hole.

Finally, is there a typo on the parts list where it says "2k7 resistor"? Is that supposed to be 2.7k?

Thanks!
Tom

Yes, plus it has CV inputs (optionally)

you'll have to adapt the instructions on commonsound to apply the Aux boards to the PCB... not too hard, but you'll probably have to look at the schematics

ahh... 2k7 is the same as 2.7k. The convention came about because the tiny little decimal point is easy to miss, so the "k" is put in its place. 2k=2000, 2k7=2000+700. Sort of a british thing, but makes sense to my new world brain too...

Thanks much, Dann! Ordered all the parts (well, most) and hope to be ironing this weekend.

OK, now that the board is populated I have a question the waveshaper mod. I haven't completed the build and instead decided to include the mod in my first go.

So in an earlier post I read some discussion (DeFog was the OP) about using an audio taper pot for speed to provide a more even range. Is this recommended by anyone else? Is it wired the same way? How is it wired with respect to the waveshaper knob?

Thanks in advance!
Tom

if you use an audio taper pot for the speed pot, you will get the same range (max speed and min speed), but the sweep will feel more natural. That is, it won't be so bunched up towards the faster end. It doesn't effect the way you wire the waveshaper mod, but you should wire an audio taper pot reversed (use lug 3 instead of lugs 1), so that faster=CCW.

So I decided to use the 7809 initially and when I plugged in to a 9V regulated supply the 3 rect LEDs lit up and responded to the changes on the speed pot but the LED indicator was very dim. Also, there was audio when the switch was bypassed but none when it was engaged. I pulled the 7809 and plugged back into the same supply and now nothing is turning on.

Thoughts?

7809 is back in and i've got light again. Still no signal when engaged. the TL074s are giving me 7.84V between pins 4 and 11.

....and it's alive. I reversed the in/out on the stompswitch -- doh!
Still have 7.85V on pins 4 and 11....is that too low?

Since your voltage is low, perhaps you are using a regulated power supply and a 7809 on the phaseur board to regulate the power *again*... which will drop your voltage to between 7 and 8 volts. See this post:

Thanks Dann, going to try pulling the 7809 again.

Another question. I'm going to attempt the mods before finding an enclosure. Is there a schematic circulating for the Aux LFO mods? I attempted making one with EAGLE (schematic software) but I'm not sure if I got it right and it's my first attempt as well. And I doubt it exists but does anyone have a layout design to do the mods on stripboard?

Thanks, Tom

I don't have a schematic drawn on the computer for the aux mods... You can post your schematic and I'll check it Cool

Thanks Dann, I'll post it eventually, I need to neaten it up and i have a new issue....no power at all now!

I took the 7809 out and now no LEDs at all. Bypass works but no audio when engaged. I may have snapped a wire since I've been bending it all around and used solid core wire...

So now the 7809 is back in and I have power once again. Is there something else I need to do once the 7809 is removed? Why would I have power when it it in place and none when it is out?

Oh, if you are using a regulated supply and remove the 7809, you have to put a jumper between where pins 1 and 3 used to go. Sorry I didnt make that explicit! The function of the 7809 is to drop whatever incoming voltage (usually 10-15V) down to a steady 9V which is fed to the circuit. So if you take it out, the circuit will get no power unless you put in that jumper.

awesome, thanks Dann!

BTW, I'm loving this circuit so far -- I'm getting a really nice range of sounds. Can't wait to get all the mods in and get it completed!

So I've put this down for awhile but now i'm back at it with the mods. Are the 100uF caps in the mod polarized?

yep, 100uF caps are polarized. The long lead is the +, the short lead is negative, and is marked by a stripe on the body of the cap (often with a minus sign written on the stripe)

got it, thanks! I couldn't tell for sure from the instruction files.

Edit: I came up with this as a layout for both LFO mods:

index.php?t=getfile&id=66&private=0

ok so i spent more time with it and found some errors. Working those out now and improving the layout but I have a new question: how would a stomp switch be wired up for the mods? I have a 3pdt switch for each mod. Thanks.

for the aux mod with the photocell, use the 3PDT to disconnect the photocell from Main Speed 3 (alternatively, you could do it on the wire to Pin 7). You might want to use another row on the 3PDT to disconnect the aux LFO's LED, so that it "looks" off to the musician.

for the aux-to-add mod, you can break the connection between the mod board and depth 3, and then use another row on the stomp to short out depth 1 and depth 2. In this way, stomping the switch is the same as turning down the depth pot (no effect). Then the final row can be used to turn off the aux LED.

hmm, ok i think i follow...i found the 'Aux LFO Killswitch' diagram for the Tremulous Lune and assumed I could do the same thing for the Aux LFO's here. Is that what you are describing for the Aux-to-add mod?
