It's here! We drafted some pc boards, ordered some panels to be punched, and assembled the first bend matrix. After over a year of breadboarding and prototyping, we finally have a production-quality product that works!
What is it?
The Bend Matrix is a meta-instrument. It connects and disconnects your effects and instruments. The connections can anything: inputs and outputs, circuit bend points, drum triggers, CV signals, audio signals, etc...
You set your connections using the 16 illuminated buttons aka "the matrix". Press a button, it lights up and the connection is made. Press it again and it goes off. You can save the current matrix patches in one of 8 sequence positions. Press Play and run the sequence. You can save up to 16 sequences aka "banks"... giving us 128 possible saved matrices.
When the sequencer is playing, the analog knobs control how the bend matrix makes transistions from one patch to the next. There's four knob modes to choose from (strobe effect, bouncing, gloob(?), and random).
You also can choose matrix or bank play mode. In matrix mode, the sequencer repeats the current bank only. In bank mode, all the banks are repeated.
what else? MIDI in/out (knobs output CCs and buttons output NOTE commands... and vice-versa)... The PATH button lets you set a different sequence path: instead of 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-1-2-3-4-etc you can have it go 1-8-2-7-3-6-4-5-etc.. or 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-etc..
The LENGTH button lets you set the repeat point of the sequence, e.g. 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4 or 1-2-1-2-1-2-...
The original panel fit in a 8x10 box, but I put it on a 12x10 panel so there'd be room for mods. Of course the bendmatrix has already been modified to fill that space! This thing is going to need a manual real quick!
